Wait...Just Wait

Grammy, I’m in college now!”  She said it aloud in the universe and it will be true, oh so soon.  Of course, she was just teasing me because she has an unbelievable sense of humor. In fact, Madisyn had just finished her kindergarten graduation ceremonies.  She took another big step in her life. Each step comes quicker now. The downhill snowball of life has started its roll and there is no stopping it now!

Up to this point, we have been waiting on her. Lurch and I waited impatiently for nine months for Madisyn to enter the world.  The hardest wait was on the day of her birth when things did not go as planned and we witnessed emergency procedures with the doctor suggesting that Lurch and I lunch or rest and come back. Surely he jest!  We waited.  It was definitely worth the wait to look up and see my son carrying my beautiful new granddaughter to place in my arms!

That was just the first wait.  We waited for her to smile, to laugh, to eat, to crawl, to walk, to talk and to say our names.  Then we waited for her to color, to ride bikes, to roller-skate, to drive her Barbie Jeep, to play soccer, to dance, to cheerlead and to start school. Then we waited for her to win academic awards, attendance awards and character awards. The wait is over. Game on. Madisyn is the winner.

Now the wait revolves around spending time with Madisyn. We wait patiently for Lurch to get stronger so we can attend Madisyn’s events again. In the meantime, Grande and I wait for her phone calls, wait for the pictures to arrive and wait with glee for her yearly summer visits to Grammy and Grande’s house!

Now, Madisyn, as you race ahead in life, it is your time to learn to wait. Just wait a little on Grammy and Grande.  We may not move quite as quickly as we use to. Just wait a bit. We are right behind you…as always.

Hey Girl, you gave me chills and wrote that "heartfelt" post I knew that has been waiting to come out. Thanks, I loved each and every word and Madisyn is one lucky little girl to have you as her Grammy!

Waiting on a woman! But as in the song...so worth the wait.

Beautiful. Such love. I can only hope to be half the grandma you are. For now, I'm working on a quarter the mother.
